Earlier this year, Dread and Iconic Events announced they are teaming up to give the horror anthology Satanic Hispanics a theatrical release on 800 screens in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It has since been confirmed that the specific release date is September 14th – and with that date just a month away, the full trailer for Satanic Hispanics has arrived online! You can check it out in the embed above.
The film consists of segments that were directed by five different Latin filmmakers: Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider!), Alejandro Brugués (Juan of the Dead), Eduardo Sánchez (The Blair Witch Project), Demián Rugna (Terrified), and Gigi Saul Guerrero (Into the Dark: Culture Shock). The stories were written by Alejandro Mendez, Demian Rugna, Adam Cesare, and Lino K. Villa. It all begins when police raid a house in El Paso, full of dead Latinos, and with only one survivor: The Traveler. When the cops him to the station for questioning, he tells them about the horrors he’s encountered in his long time on this earth. Each director hails from a different corner of Latin America, contributing folklore and political and social commentary from Argentina, Cuba, and Mexico, fused through a genre lens.
The Traveler is played by Efren Ramirez of Napoleon Dynamite. His co-stars include Greg Grunberg, Hemky Madera, Jonah Ray Rodrigues, Patricia Velásquez, Jacob Vargas, Ari Gallegos, Demian Salomon, Christian Rodrigo, and Michael C. Williams.
Patrick Ewald, who produced Satanic Hispanics and also happens to be CEO/owner of Epic Pictures and Dread, provided the following statement: “We are deeply grateful to have worked with such incredible talent on Satanic Hispanics. With Iconic as our partner in the theatrical release, I can only hope that audiences will have as much fun watching the film as we did making it.“
Brugués, who also produced the movie with Ewald and Mendez, had this to say: “This movie is very special for us. The first all-Latino horror anthology, made by some of the best horror directors representing us from all corners of Latin America, and focused on telling our stories. We couldn’t be happier having Iconic Events joining us in unleashing our Latino mayhem on you during Hispanic Heritage month.“
Satanic Hispanics seems like a good time to me, and I’m a fan of the filmmakers involved, so I will definitely be watching this movie.
