Sarah Wayne Callies finds horror on The Other Side of the Door

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

A couple months ago, I reviewed the film PAY THE GHOST, which starred Sarah Wayne Callies and Nicolas Cage as a couple who find themselves up against supernatural horrors after their young son disappears. I can't help but think of that movie when watching the trailer for THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR, which stars Callies as a woman who encounters supernatural horrors after the death of her son. It's interesting to see Callies do such similar projects back-to-back, although the horror on display in THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR looks quite different from what PAY THE GHOST had to offer.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR was directed by genre filmmaker Johannes Roberts from a screenplay he wrote with Ernest Riera and has the following synopsis:

A family lives an idyllic existence abroad until a tragic accident takes the life of their young son. The inconsolable mother learns of an ancient ritual that will bring him back to say a final goodbye. She travels to an ancient temple, where a door serves as a mysterious portal between two worlds. But when she disobeys a sacred warning to never open that door, she upsets the balance between life and death.

Callies is joined in the cast by Jeremy Sisto.

The film was produced by Alexandre Aja, Rory Aitken, and Ben Pugh. 20th Century Fox will be releasing it into theatres on March 4, 2016.

PAY THE GHOST comparisons aside, I'm looking forward to the movie after watching the trailer, having been drawn in by its weirdness. Give the trailer and poster a look below and see if you want to find out what's on THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR.
