Sarah Michelle Gellar has reached a deal to reprise her CRUEL INTENTIONS role as the female lead in the pilot for NBC's planned reboot/sequel television series. Gellar was reportedly approached about playing Kathryn Merteuil once again shortly after the pilot was ordered, and last night the actress took to Instagram to confirm her involvement.
The follow-up series will take place more than 15 years after the events from the 1999 movie, and will follow Merteuil "as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith), the son of her brother, the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe), and Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon). Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined."
Apparently Merteuli is "now married to the wealthy Pascal Barrett and spearheads an inspiring youth rehabilitation movement, as well as being involved in a local private school." But she has "many secrets in her life," and is "privately shaken by the arrival of Sebastian’s son and the re-appearance in her life of Hargrove, the girl she wronged years ago." Samantha Logan and Sophina Brown will co-star in the pilot, however it hasn't been announced yet who they will be playing. If ordered to series, Cruel Intentions will likely premiere either late 2016 or sometime next year.
