Saoirse Ronan has gone ahead and updated the news that she had auditioned for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII with the information that she in fact did not win the role. Back in October, Ronan revealed she went for a lead role in the anticipated sequel but with the disclaimer that most of Hollywood’s young and desirable had as well.
In an interview with IndieWire, Ronan had this to say:
“I don’t have STAR WARS. I don’t have the role,” Ronan said, sounding kind of defeated. “I just shouldn’t have said anything. I just auditioned for it, like everyone else did.” When we asked about the audition process, she said, “To pretend that you have a lightsaber in a scene is always very exciting. It would be great. But it’s something that everyone’s gone up for.”
I like Ronan quite a bit and she proved in HANNA that she can kick some ass, but I am hoping that J.J. Abrams fills STAR WARS: EPISODE VII with unknowns so as to not draw away from the story at hand. Having a few big names for villainous roles and supporting parts alongside the original stars Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford should be more than enough to allow the primary parts to be played by newly discovered talent.
Ronan went on to say that the other high profile film she has been linked to, THE FANTASTIC FOUR, is also a rumor and she has not been in the running for that movie. Of course, Josh Trank‘s reboot could still be on the table and she could be playing it smooth since she learned the rumor mill for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII played havoc in the media.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII opens sometime in 2015.
