It's funny how things work out. Director Susanne Bier's upcoming film BIRD BOX is an adaptation of a Josh Malerman novel that was published in 2014 and is a project that has been in the works since before that book even reached store shelves, but now the timing of its release makes it look like it was something made in response to A QUIET PLACE. A QUIET PLACE had a family struggling to survive the apocalypse while not being able to make a sound, BIRD BOX has a family struggling to survive the apocalypse while having to go around with blindfolds on.
Eric Heisserer wrote the screenplay for this cinematic adaptation, which tells the story of
a mother and her two young children, who are among a small group of survivors after a mysterious alien force has driven the world's population to deadly violence. The three must make their way on a terrifying journey — 20 miles in a rowboat — while blindfolded, with nothing to rely on but the mother's wits and the children's trained ears.
BIRD BOX stars Sandra Bullock, John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Danielle Macdonald, Rosa Salazar, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, Colson Baker, and B.D. Wong.
The trailer can be seen below, and it looks quite promising, especially if you can push aside the thought of A QUIET PLACE.
The film will be in select theatres and available for viewing through the Netflix streaming service as of December 21st.
