San Andreas 3D may have found its director

Disaster epic SAN ANDREAS 3D may have found its director. Brad Peyton, who directed JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND is negotiating with New Line to direct the film.

The only known plot details are that it will center on a massive earthquake that hits California. Fairly vague, so there are a lot of different directions this one could go in. I would think this would be set in a contemporary setting rather than a historical one, like Brad Bird’s long developed 1906.

Peyton’s JOURNEY 2 grossed over $300 million worldwide, which gives him an automatic second shot at a big budget movie. His prior directing credits include the awful CATS & DOGS: REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE. Hopefully he can handle the scope of a disaster flick.

Now, if only they will make it a star-studded event like the classic Charlton Heston movie EARTHQUAKE.
