Sylvester Stallone‘s new superhero movie, Samaritan, will be released on Amazon Prime Video on August 26, 2022. In Samaritan, a young man learns that a superhero who went missing 20 years ago lives next to him in Granite City. The film’s director, Julius Avery, says the film will be a grounded affair about a kid looking for a father figure in Stallone’s character. The Samaritan release date will be music to the ears of those looking forward to this heartfelt action flick.
Speaking about the film, Stallone told Yahoo, “I love action films that also have heart. I wanted to be involved with Samaritan because this story has many layers that I think people can relate to. It’s something of a morality tale that is also very exciting to watch.”
“We are thrilled that this will be seen globally on Prime Video where my fans and all audiences can enjoy it together around the world,” Stallone adds.
Debuting Samaritan on Amazon Prime Video will permit easy access to the film for subscribers of the platform and anyone else with access to the service. The film has been rated PG-13, assuring that mature themes will be a part of the story. The film also stars Euphoria and The Umbrella Academy‘s Javon Walton, Martin Starr (Freaks and Geeks), and Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones).
“We didn’t really have superheroes…We only had action heroes. And Sly was the closest thing we had to a superhero. So to put him in a superhero movie? That feels fresh and cool and something that people will get a kick out of,” Avery explained to Slash Film in 2021.
In addition to the Samaritan release date reveal, several new images and key art were shared for the upcoming film:
