Sometimes a film is described as a “dark comedy” and when you read the synopsis you wonder where the darkness is going to come from. Is it the setting? The dialogue in the film? Or is the lighting just really bad?
Deadline is reporting that Sam Rockwell, Anne Hathaway, and Chloe Moretz are in negotiations to star in the dark comedy LAGGIES. Lynn Shelton (MY SISTER’S SISTER, HUMP DAY) is attached to direct the film from a script by Andrea Seigel.
LAGGIES revolves around:
Perpetual adolescent and late-twentysomething Megan (Hathaway) who, freaked out by her boyfriend’s marriage proposal, pretends to go on a career retreat but actually hides out for a week with 16-year-old Annika (Moretz), her new best friend.
An older character in the film called Craig will be played by Sam Rockwell and Mark Webber may also join the cast as Megan’s boyfriend.
I’m guessing most of the laughs will come from whatever shennanigans Anne Hathaway and Chloe Moretz get into but I’m going to take a “wait and see” approach with this film. Sam Rockwell is always excellent but a film like this could go either way. I’m sure at the end of the movie Anne Hathaway‘s character will have some sort of moment of clarity and realizes she needs to grow up and mature, but if the journey towards the predictable ending is dark and funny enough I’d be willing to check it out.
