Sam Raimi to brave the Bermuda Triangle for Skydance Productions

Multi-talented filmmaker of such awesome films as THE EVIL DEAD, DARKMAN, and DRAG ME TO HELL, Sam Raimi, is set to direct the BERMUDA TRIANGLE mystery thriller being spearheaded by Skydance Productions. Currently, Skydance is busy developing one of three Bermuda Triangle projects, with the others being set up by Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures.

The films will center around the area of the North Atlantic Ocean between Florida, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda, where several aircraft and sea-bearing vessels have vanished throughout the course of history. The Bermuda Triangle has been a hotbed of conversation for conspiracy theorists for quite some time, with conversations ranging from unexplained disappearances to supernatural activity and alleged UFO sightings throughout the large body of water.

Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard (PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME) will be your co-writers for the script, although a previous draft was once penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift before the studio decided to switch gears.

This could be pretty cool, right? Raimi is certainly no stranger to featuring mysterious locales in his movies, and the otherworldly stories that surround the Bermuda Triangle mythos certainly leave much to the imagination. I'll have to wait for a trailer to be sure, but this project sounds like it has some potential to have Raimi doing what he does best – playing in the weird and wonderful toy box of the unexplained and unnatural. My fingers are officially crossed for some good stuff to come of this.

Raimi's next directorial effort will be the war time action thriller WORLD WAR 3, which is poised to be an examination of what the world might look like in the future of the 21st century. The film is still in the early stages of development, but you can bet that we'll be talking about it once we hear of some more details. In the meantime, you should probably watch ASH VS EVIL DEAD, because it's awesome and two seasons-worth of the show are available to watch now.
