Salem’s Lot reboot to star Top Gun: Maverick’s Lewis Pullman

Salem's Lot reboot Lewis Pullman

The Stephen King adaptations just keep coming. One of the many projects in development is a feature film adaptation of King’s Salem’s Lot, and THR has reported that New Line Cinema has tapped Lewis Pullman to star.

Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman, will star as Ben Mears, a writer who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book. Once there, he discovers that the residents are being preyed upon by an ancient vampire and turned into creatures of the night. Banding together with a ragtag group, Ben Mears attempts to fight back against the evil presence. Pullman is no stranger to the big screen, but the Salem’s Lot reboot will be his biggest role to date. He’s previously appeared in The Ballad of Left Brown, The Strangers: Prey at Night, Bad Times at the El Royale, Catch-22, and will next be seen alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick.

The Salem’s Lot reboot will be written and directed by Gary Dauberman, and production is expected to kick off next month in Boston. Dauberman has previously teased that he wants “to be as true to the story as I possibly can,” adding that he’s “very, very excited to be a part of that and tackle it. It hasn’t had the big screen treatment yet, which is how I felt about It. It’s so fun to play around with vampires and make something truly scary with vampires. I haven’t seen that in a long, long time, and I’m excited for people to see it.” While this will be the first time that Salem’s Lot will make the leap to the big screen, the story has been adapted to the small screen twice before, once in 1979 for a mini-series starring David Soul (which spawned a sequel) and again in 2004 with Rob Lowe taking on the main role. Top Gun: Maverick is set to hit theaters on November 19, 2021.
