Sacha Baron Cohen joining the MCU as Mephisto?

Wa wa wee wa! Reports have come in that Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing Mephisto in Disney+’s upcoming Ironheart series. While this has yet to be confirmed, sources are confident that the actor will be portraying the Marvel character on the MCU show.

The cast of the MCU’s Ironheart is starting to fill out quite nicely, with Dominique Thorne portraying Riri Williams/Ironheart, “a genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man”, and Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins/The Hood. Years ago, Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis said Riri Williams/Ironheart “speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole. Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related.”

In addition to those stars, Alden Ehrenreich, Harper Anthony, Manny Montana, Shea Couleé, and more have been attached to the series. If Sacha Baron Cohen indeed portrays Mephisto, it will be his introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Marvel, the character is “a Hell-lord of temptation. Empowered by the souls of the damned, this demon strikes bargains with the living to collect residents for his hellish realm.” Very niiiice!

Black Panther helmer Ryan Coogler will serve as an executive producer while Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes will direct. Showrunner Chinaka Hodge (2020’s Snowpiercer, the anthology series The Midnight Club) will serve as head writer.

As confirmed last year, Riri Williams/Ironheart will make her big screen debut in this month’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, due out on November 11th.

While no official release date has been announced, Ironheart is due out in the Fall of 2023 as part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
