Saban Films to release Andre Ovredal’s Mortal in the U.S.

A few weeks ago, we shared the trailer for MORTAL, the latest film from TROLLHUNTER / THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE / SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK director André Øvredal. MORTAL is set to reach theatres in Norway on February 28th, but hadn't yet secured U.S. distribution when that trailer hit. We still don't have the exact date for its U.S. release, but now we know who will be releasing it.

Saban Films has bought the U.S. rights to MORTAL in a deal brokered by Endeavor Content. They're planning to give the film a rollout release.

Saban president Bill Bromiley told Variety,

We love André’s work, from ‘Scary Stories,’ to ‘Troll Hunter’ and The Autopsy of Jane Doe.’ This is a coming-of-age origins story but also a genre mashup with (Nat) Wolff rising as a legend with God-like powers. Our audiences will love this."

Nat Wolff stars in MORTAL as

an American backpacker in western Norway who finds himself imprisoned following the accidental death of a local teen. Along with a young psychologist he met in jail, Wolff flees and soon learns he has abilities derived from ancient Norwegian mythology.

The film also stars Priyanka Bose, Arthur Hakalahti, Iben Akerlie, Ravdeep Singh Bajwa, and Per Egil Aske.

Øvredal wrote MORTAL with Norman Lesperance. John Einar Hagen, Ben Pugh, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones produced.

We'll let you know when Saban reveals details on their distribution plans. Hopefully the movie won't be reaching the U.S. too long after its Norway release, because I'm looking forward to watching it.
