Ryan Reynolds must sure love Christmas. Not only did he co-star in the holiday rom-com Just Friends, but he also has the A Christmas Carol spin Spirited in theaters and on Apple TV+ (read our review here). Oh, and he wrote a Deadpool Christmas movie, which Santa really needs to pull through on!
As he revealed in a new interview, Ryan Reynolds has indeed co-scripted a Deadpool holiday movie. “Four years ago [Deadpool co-writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made.” That Reynolds pulled this out of his sack during the holiday season makes this a tantalizing tease for fans of the Merc with a Mouth.
While we won’t get Wade Wilson wrapped in a bow this year, Reynolds is hopeful that the script will get made. “Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.”
Deadpool does seem to love him some Christmas cheer. In 2015, 20th Century Fox launched the “12 Days of Deadpool” campaign, in which Deadpool encouraged fans to “sit back, hold onto your ornaments, guzzle a little eggnog–at least that looks like eggnog–and prepare yourself because it’s time for Saint Wade to put the wit in winter wonderland.” Unfortunately, no holiday movie materialized and it just led to a trailer for the following year’s first Deadpool movie.
In addition to that, following Deadpool 2 came a PG-13 edit of that movie titled Once Upon a Deadpool, rumored to have been a Christmas movie. That never came to be, either, as all fans got a Princess Bride homage Ryan Reynolds in a Santa hat reading to Fred Savage.
In the meantime, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be released on Disney+ on November 25th. Maybe its success will help get Wade Wilson down the chimney at some point?
