Back in October, it was rumoured that Legendary Entertainment was looking for a major Hollywood actor to do motion capture and voice-work for the title character in their DETECTIVE PIKACHU movie. Those under consideration included Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg, and Dwayne Johnson, and now THR reports that Ryan Reynolds has signed on the play the role. Pika Pika!
Production on the Rob Letterman (GOOSEBUMPS) directed flick is due to begin in London by mid-January, and Ryan Reynolds will be joining Justice Smith (JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM) and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) in the movie. Pikachu is a species of Pokémon, but Detective Pikachu fancies himself as a self-styled investigator who is good at finding things. When the father of Justice Smith's character is kidnapped, the teenager is forced to team up with Detective Pikachu in order to find him. Kathryn Newton is set to play a sassy journalist who helps them on their quest. Legendary has high hopes for the upcoming film, which has been scripted by Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman, and sees it as the beginning of a potential franchise.
Before we witness Ryan Reynolds as the small yellow sleuth, we'll see the actor reprise the role of DEADPOOL for the David Leitch directed sequel on June 1, 2018.
