While a long-shot, there was some who felt that DEADPOOL might've had a chance at some Oscar gold. Those people were delusional, but those people did exist.
Anyway, what's done is done, and DEADPOOL has come away with zero nominations. But Ryan Reynolds, star of DEADPOOL, had this to say about it on Twitter:
Regularly scheduled tickle-fight at Camp #Deadpool is still on. Congrats to all the nominees for these brilliant films. #Oscars2017
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) January 24, 2017
The "tickle fight" is a nod to a previous tweet Reynolds made after the Golden Globes nominations came out, which earned him a Best Actor nomination. But it was the Golden Globes, so no one gave a shit.
To be fair, I do want to see comic-book – and genre films in general – get more love during awards season. Don't get me wrong, I legitimately loved LA LA LAND, HIDDEN FIGURES, and MOONLIGHT, it's not like I feel there's anything wrong with the nominees this year. It's just that there does still seem to be a prejudice towards sci-fi/fantasy/action films during awards season that feels unwarranted (even if there are outliers, like Best Picture noms for STAR WARS and LORD OF THE RINGS). DEADPOOL was never going to be the film to break that barrier for comic-book films (outside of supporting actor and technical awards), but I am looking forward to see the one that does.
Either way, DEADPOOL 2 will break the fourth wall and make more dick jokes sometime in 2018.
