Ryan Reynolds on why Deadpool has no place in Logan

On Wednesday a story broke that Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) would be making an appearance in March’s LOGAN, and the internet lost every marble. It didn’t take long for director James Mangold to squash the story, and many fanboys’ life-affirming fantasies with it. The issue still hasn’t subsided, though, and Reynolds still has a few words left on the matter, and you could say those words leave a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel:

Though Reynolds is still reminding fans he will be nowhere near LOGAN, he seems to still be leaving the door open for some kind of merger down the road (making up for X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, hopefully). There’s no real answer as to where Fox will take Wolverine after Hugh Jackman hangs up his claws next year, but it’s possible they could set the character, and whoever plays him, up for some kind of crossover. Reynolds has the clout now to get that done and, really, who wouldn’t watch that movie?

But for now and into the unknowable future Deadpool and Wolverine couldn’t be further apart. Like DEADPOOL, LOGAN will have a hard R rating, but for a much different reason. Coming off as more of a superhero drama than an action movie, the movie promises to be the most brutal cinematic outing for the character, and Deadpool’s snarky, over-the-top shenanigans have no place in it. Plus, I feel that by the end of this movie people will be too busy crying to give a shit where Deadpool is (probably off doing something terrible to an old woman, I imagine).

LOGAN is set for March 3 with Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and no Deadpool.
