Now that "American Horror Story: Coven" is all wrapped up, it's time to start looking ahead at what Ryan Murphy has planned for the series as it moves into its next season. Each season has been drastically different so far, and from the early teasers that Murphy has spilled it looks like they will be keeping up with that trend as the fourth season turns its head towards a period piece set in the 1950's.
EW caught up with Murphy who dropped a few hints at what to expect from the show as it moves forward. When asked who would be returning next year, Murphy said, "I don’t wanna say because we haven’t even started the deals, and I literally just locked this thing on Monday. I’m meeting with people too and the writers haven’t even started yet." Well, we already know that both Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett have been approached for a role so I wouldn't be surprised to see them join Jessica Lange next season.
Murphy then went on to talk about the kind of tone that the fourth season will have, saying, "It’s a combination of things. It’s a combination of two time periods, with the main one being the 1950s. I don’t know. We haven’t started writing it yet, so I don’t really know the tone. I like that we had a lot of comedy in this year, and I like the comic characters, so I think that will remain… Next year will be equally as challenging [as "Coven" was] because so much of it is period and bizarre and crazy and Gothic. My feeling is, if you loved this season, you’ll love next season. It has the same sort of comedic tone to it."
And as far as Season 5 is concerned, all he had to say was that "it’s a radically different idea from the stuff we’ve been doing and it will take a lot of playing." What could it be!? I love the idea of an anthology series like "American Horror Story" because it opens itself up to try something new each season. Things are looking up for "American Horror Story", now it's time to see where it goes from here.
