The nominations were announced this morning for the 2016 Golden Globes, a fact that I'm sure some of you have managed to completely ignore. It's not often that horror and awards season mix, so it's totally understandable. But horror has slowly managed to infiltrate the mainstream, so there's a couple things you should know, for better or for worse.
First off, American Horror Story: Hotel has nabbed 2 whole nominations, which isn't quite as many as previous years but is intriguing considering how bizarre and offbeat the show has gotten this season. In addition to a nomination for Best Limited Series, Lady Gaga got a nod for Best Actress in a Limited Series. Some may scoff, but Gaga has done a surprisingly good job leading this season down its narrow, twisting path.
In less shocking news, Jamie Lee Curtis has received a nomination, for Best Actress in a Comedy for Scream Queens, which just aired its finale this week. Also in the spooky spectrum, Eva Green got a Best Actress in a Drama nom for Penny Dreadful.
Across the gap in the film section, the closest we got was Alicia Vikander for Best Actress in EX MACHINA. But the horror faithful have at least a couple things to root for or against this season, so that's a real step up historically. You can catch the Golden Globes broadcast on NBC at 8PM ET/5PM PT on January 10, 2016.
