This year has seen driving movies like DRIVE ANGRY and FAST FIVE and while those movies were appreciated for what they were, they probably wouldn’t make it very far at the Cannes Film Festival. But that’s exactly where Ryan Gosling is taking his fast car project DRIVE.
The film is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (BRONSON) and will be playing In Competition in Cannes, which means it actually has a chance to win the Palme d’Or (unlike something like PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, which is Out of Competition and just there to add some celebrity to the red carpet). We haven’t seen much at all from the film – which stars Gosling as a Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a getaway driver – but today the first clip from the film has popped up online. Give or take a few seconds, this looks to be the first two minutes of the movie and with very little dialogue sets up our character and his job.
DRIVE was originally set up at Universal but was dropped and now, with an impressive supporting cast that includes Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston and Christina Hendricks, will be released by newbies FilmDistrict later this fall.
