Ho ho ho, now I have…a reboot? Yes, FOX has announced plans for a DIE HARD reboot, and Ryan Gosling has been tapped to play John "Yippee-ki-yay, Mother Russia" McClane. So much for DIE HARD 6 (working title DIE HARDEST), I guess. Additionaly, sources tell Deadline that it will be a straight-up remake of the classic action movie, meaning McClane will once again find himself at the wrong place (Nakatomi Plaza) at the wrong time (Christmas Eve), and Hans Gruber will be the villain.
So what does Bruce Willis think of all of this? Well, the same sources also have FOX pursuing Willis for the Hans Gruber role, (played by Alan Rickman in the 1988 film) but instead of a German terrorist, the character will be a disgruntled U.S. Army general. No director has been set, but those being considered are Len Wiseman (who did LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) and Alan Taylor (THOR: THE DARK WORLD, TERMINATOR: GENISYS).
Although A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD received abysmal reviews and had an underwhelming run at the domestic box office, I'm still shocked a reboot of the franchise is in the works, and I'm even more surprised that Willis might be interested in the Gruber role. As for Gosling as McClane, personally I think the actor is a little too good looking to play the everyman NYPD officer, however I still think it could work. Are you down for a Ryan Gosling-led DIE HARD remake, or would you rather walk barefoot across a floor of broken glass?
DIE HARD is set to open on July 1, 2016.
