Variety is reporting Russell Brand and Rainn Wilson have joined Nicolas Cage in the Larry Charles-directed (BORAT, THE DICTATOR) comedy ARMY OF ONE, as well as Denis O'Hare (DALLAS BUYERS CLUB), Ken Marino (BAD MILO), Paul Scheer (The League) and Wendi McLendon-Covey (Reno 911!). Charles is directing the film from a script by DRAFT DAY scribes Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph.
ARMY OF ONE is based (although loosely) on a GQ article by Chris Heath about Colorado resident Gary Faulkner, who attempted to single-handedly hunt down and capture Osama bin Laden in 2010.
From Heath's article:
Equipped with little more than a sword he'd bought on a home-shopping network, a pair of night-vision goggles, and the blessing of a vengeful Christian God, the 50-year-old ex-con (and his failing kidneys) traveled to the most volatile region of Pakistan to capture Osama bin Laden. What's surprising is that it wasn't his first attempt. It was his eleventh.
Nicolas Cage will portray Gary Faulkner, but there's no word on who Russell Brand, Rainn Wilson and the others will be playing in the film. I remember hearing about this strange true-life story, and I'm quite pleased with the cast for the big screen version of Faulkner's bizarre quest.
Production is already underway on ARMY OF ONE, however a release date hasn't been announced yet.
