So Johnny Depp might not be super pumped to put on his eye shadow for the fourth time in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES due to Disney chief Dick Cook’s departure, but one actor from the previous films is pumped for another go-round.
That would be Geoffrey “Captain Barbossa” Rush who recently sat down with MTV to discuss what he knew of the new project.
“They’re waiting for the screenplay writers to put together something that’s beyond the trilogy, take it off into a new direction so that it’s fresh and hopefully really interesting for an audience, that they’re not going to just sausage-machine out something else, which wouldn’t be so good.”
Rush has been told to keep his schedule open for potential filming in the spring, so we may be seeing STRANGER TIDES sooner than we thought. I’m sure Depp will end up staying aboard, as the film is surely sunk without him, but we’re all going to be looking at just how phoned-in his performance is going to be. Although to be fair, even Depp half-assing it blows most other actors out of the water.
I’m done complaining about this franchise. You want to spend another $250 million on a sequel we didn’t ask for? Knock yourself out, I’ll give it two hours. Just don’t complain when you don’t set the world on fire with ticket sales and Jack Sparrow Halloween costumes this time. You’ve missed the pirate fad YOU started by about four years now.
