It feels like we've been talking about director Steven Shainberg's sci-fi thriller RUPTURE for a long time, and there's a good reason for that – it's been just days shy of two years since our first report on the movie. It's been eight months since our own Eric Walkuski caught a screening at the Fantasia International Film Festival and posted a 6/10 review, and six months since the trailer was released.
RUPTURE received a theatrical and VOD release in the UK back in November, and now the wait is almost over for those of us in the US as well. The film is set to be released exclusively through DirecTV next Thursday, March 30th, and then a theatrical, VOD, and Digital HD release will follow on April 28th.
Written by Shainberg and Brian Nelson, RUPTURE follows
Renee Morgan, a single mom who is deathly terrified of spiders. While in route to meet up with a friend, she is violently abducted by a group of strangers. After enduring intense yet strange questioning and examinations, some about her fear of spiders, Renee soon discovers that she is now the subject of an underground experiment. Her captors explain to her that she has a genetic abnormality that can potentially allow her to “rupture” and reveal her alien nature. Renee must find a way to escape before it is too late.
Noomi Rapace, Peter Stormare, Kerry Bishe, and Michael Chiklis star.
A new trailer has arrived online ahead of the film's release and can be viewed below. Even after all this time, I still don't know what's really going on in RUPTURE, but it looks interesting and disturbing. I'll be checking it out at some point.
