When we first heard about the horror thriller project Run Rabbit Run a year and a half ago, The Invisible Man‘s Elisabeth Moss was set to star in the film – but those plans have since changed. Moss had to move on from the project, so the lead role will now be filled by Emmy nominee Sarah Snook, best known for her role on the HBO series Succession.

In Run Rabbit Run, Snook will be playing

a fertility doctor whose firm grasp on the cycle of life is put to the test as her young daughter begins to exhibit increasingly strange behavior.

The film will be directed by Daina Reid, who has worked on Apple’s The Shining Girls, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, HBO’s The Outsider, and Amazon’s Upload. Reid and Snook previously worked together on the ABC mini-series The Secret River.

Snook’s other credits include Pieces of a Woman, Winchester, Steve Jobs, and The Dressmaker. She won the Best Actress in Film award from the Australian Academy for Cinema and Television Arts for her role in Predestination.

Run Rabbit Run is a Carver Films production, with major production investment from XYZ and Screen Australia, in association with Film Victoria, the South Australian Film Corporation, the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund, and Soundfirm. The screenplay for the film has been written by acclaimed novelist Hannah Kent, based on an idea developed with Carver Films.

Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw of Carver Films are producing the film, with XYZ Films executive producing alongside 30West, Deanne Weir, and Olivia Humphrey. XYZ Films is financing through its production fund backed by IPR.VC, in conjunction with Screen Australia. XYZ is also handling worldwide sales, while Umbrella Entertainment manages distribution in Australia and New Zealand.

Run Rabbit Run is heading into pre-production this month, with filming to take place in Victoria and South Australia. It sounds to be an interesting project, so we’ll be keeping an eye on it as it continues to move forward.
