Rumor: Will Batman vs Superman be filmed back to back with Justice League?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

We keep hearing more and more names being added to BATMAN VS SUPERMAN and have all but forgotten about Warner Bros. big plans for JUSTICE LEAGUE. The team movie featuring all of DC’s top heroes was all but their top project in the months leading up to MAN OF STEEL hitting theaters when Warner Bros and DC decided to take a step back and see how Zack Snyder‘s Superman movie fared at the box office. Then, we all got the big announcement that BATMAN VS SUPERMAN was coming in 2015. What about JUSTICE LEAGUE?

Granted, these are rumors, but they are compelling rumors that suppose that all of the high profile actors being named for supporting roles in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN like Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman followed by potential roles for Josh Holloway and others is leading to fans thinking that BATMAN VS SUPERMAN will be overloaded with roles. Unless there is a plan in place. Latino Review is presupposing that Dwayne Johnson‘s mystery 2014 project with DC is in fact JUSTICE LEAGUE. How would that work?

Because Batman vs Superman is going to end with an insane cliffhanger/teaser that leads right into Justice League and, like those other back-to-back productions, they want to be able to deliver the second film within a year to strike while the iron is hot. Could this very aggressive approach be how DC intends to pull the rug right out from under rival Marvel Studios? Sure could be.

Where the rumor gets sticky is that Ben Affleck is already developing his next directorial effort, LIVE BY NIGHT, after he wraps BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. Unless they are extending the filming of that superhero movie to encompass JUSTICE LEAGUE, a bold and not entirely impossible feat, then Ben Affleck would be unavailable for some time before returning as Batman.

If JUSTICE LEAGUE is on track to film along with BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, Warner Bros could potentially have two superhero blockbusters ready for release within a year of each other. They would likely space them out between Summer 2015 and Summer 2016. If this does pan out, DC may have found a way to combat the machine that is Disney/Marvel.

BATMAN VS SUPERMAN hits theaters July 17, 2015.
