The upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER has been shrouded in secrecy. That all (somewhat) ended this past Monday where theater owners were given a sneak peek at the film at CinemaCon.
There was plenty of badass footage on display such as a scene Matthew McConaughey’s Man in Black catches a bullet in his fingers with his back turn to Elba's The Gunslinger.
Another crowd-pleasing moment supposedly showcases Elba’s gunslinger using "his augmented sense of hearing to identify where a creepy-looking assailant is and to save Taylor’s character with a well-placed shot that ricochets off of a house and takes down the bad guy from several yards away."
Nice!
On top of all that awesomeness, Sony distribution chief Rory Bruer said that THE DARK TOWER has links to the rest of King’s works with one particular bit screen at CinemaCon which shows the new Jake character telling his psychiatrist about his visions and then there’s "a quick shot of a photograph that appears to show an elaborate mountain resort. It’s a dead ringer for the Overlook Hotel."
Holy sh*t! Is Jake really Danny Torrance? I hate to be a rumor monger here, but it would make sense that studios would try to build a Stephen King universe to match those of Marvel and DC, etc.
Can you imagine? A Stephen King Cinematic Universe? I'm shaking with excitement at the mere thought right now. We will, of course, have to wait and see if these rumors have any real bearing on the actual DARK TOWER film, but being that Sony distribution chief is the one who leaked the info, maybe we can start believing it.
We'll keep you guys up to date on any and all news we hear about THE DARK TOWER and, especially, its possible connections to other Stephen King works! After all, the DARK TOWER novels are literally FILLED with ties to his other books, stories, etc.
THE DARK TOWER hits theaters July 28.
