I'm really looking forward to the MCU's CAPTAIN MARVEL film. For one, it's just cool to see more female superheroes headlining their own films (only the third after SUPERGIRL and WONDER WOMAN – because I don't count ELEKTRA or CATWOMAN). For another, I really like Brie Larson as a performer, and I think she'll make a kick-ass Carol Danvers. Not only that, but the plot synopsis sounds insane, such as being set in the '90s, having her fight Skrulls (!), and the inclusion of Nick Fury with both his eyes! That all sounds cool.
But wait, there's more! It seems MCU Exchange (who first broke news about "The Children of Thanos") has another exclusive rumor (emphasis on rumor) that the original Captain Marvel – Kree warrior Mar-Vell – will indeed be in the film! For those unaware, he is the one who ultimately bestows Danvers with her powers when an explosion from a device called the "Psyche-Magnetron" caused Danvers' genetic structure to meld with his (and yes, the "Psyche-Magnetron" is supposed to make an appearance as well). They even claim an early version of the Ms. Marvel costume will make it on screen, though I'm sure there will be some obvious changes.
Either way, that's pretty exciting, as legacy is a pretty important part of Captain Marvel's history, and it's nice to see Marvel Studios acknowledge that. As for why she won't be appearing in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR? Apparently something to do with the "Quantum Realm". Though, rest assured, she's definitely going to be kicking Thanos' ass in the sequel. Can't wait!
Meanwhile, CAPTAIN MARVEL will blast into theaters March 8th, 2019.
