Rumor: Marvel to pave the way for a New Avengers film in May 2022

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Flip the switch and start the turbines, because the ol' Marvel rumor mill is alive with the sound of hearsay!

A new rumor hailing from We've Got This Covered suggests that Marvel is headed toward some epic team-up scenarios for the MCU's Phase 4 plans, with a source having told the outlet that a NEW AVENGERS film is now scheduled for a May 6, 2022 release.

Now, it's way too early in the game not to take this "news" with a big ol' grain of salt, so be sure to open wide and shovel that mineral down real good. According to WGTC's source, the movie is definitely happening, with Marvel angling to introduce characters like Kate Bishop's Hawkeye, Iron Lad, Patriot, Wiccan, Stature (Cassie Lang), and Vision 2.0 over the next few years, so that they can be a part of the mix. Again, this is all some major speculation, so please, don't go flipping tables if none of this information pans out.

While I'm personally not about to fall for any of this gossip, Joe Russo has, in the past, said that Marvel has no intention of continuing to tell linear stories. This means that the MCU could see players from Marvel's Disney+ television shows making their way to the big screen, which gives the studio plenty of wiggle room to introduce and dig deep into new chracters. It could be that select characters will find their way onto a new Avengers team, though all of this remains to be seen.

For the moment, we know that Marvel has plans to launch a BLACK WIDOW solo feature starring Scarlett Johansson with Cate Shortland at the helm. There's also James Gunn's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 3, Ryan Coogler's BLACK PANTHER 2, a reported sequel to DOCTOR STRANGE, and of course, SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME is set to swing into theaters on July 2, 2019. While release dates for several of the aforementioned films are still in flux, it is possible that Marvel will assemble a team of new and existing characters for a NEW AVENGERS epic.

With all of that said … I still don't know. Without some tasty breadcrumbs to lend credence to WGTC's findings, this is going to be a hard wait and see for me, as it should be for you. After all, Marvel rumors are a dime a dozen in general, and now that we know so little about the MCU's post-Endgame future, false information is bound to be coming in hotter than the Human Torch when he flames on.
