Rumor: Dwayne Johnson to play John Stewart/Green Lantern for DC?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Ready for the first BATMAN VS SUPERMAN rumor of the new year? Peter Georgiou from Think McFly Think tweeted yesterday that the rumor circulating behind-the-scenes is Dwayne Johnson might be playing John Stewart/Green Lantern for DC and Warner Bros. A few days ago Johnson tweeted that he had a meeting with the two companies, but nothing else was revealed. Although BATMAN VS SUPERMAN isn't mentioned in either tweet, if (and that's a huge if) Dwayne Johnson is up for Green Lantern, it's probably safe to assume it'll be for that upcoming movie, which is sounding more and more like a JUSTICE LEAGUE film, and not just Batman fighting Superman.

Ryan Reynolds' GREEN LANTERN might not have been a huge success, however more people are now aware of the character because of the movie. It would make sense to introduce a "new" Green Lantern in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN (if that's the plan), since the first film wasn't that well received, and we know Warner Bros. and DC are trying to build their own cinematic universe, so they could start from scratch with Green Lantern instead of trying to connect the last movie to their new film world. The other thing is even if Johnson isn't up for Green Lantern, it sounds like DC and Warner Bros. have had at least one conversation about another possible big screen adventure with the character.

But remember, this is only a rumor at this point, and a second-hand one at that. I think Dwayne Johnson would make a damn fine John Stewart, but I'm still hopeful the project he tweeted about is LOBO. He would totally own as the character.

Do you want to see Dwayne Johnson as Green Lantern, or should he play a different character for DC? Sound off below!
