It wasn’t that long ago that the title of the first Star Wars spin-off was revealed to be ROGUE ONE. Then came the trailer for the fifth Mission: Impossible film which ended up going by the name of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION. Now I’d say that most of us can tell the difference between a Star Wars film and a Mission: Impossible film, but that didn’t stop Disney and Paramount from briefly butting heads over the use of the word “rogue”. Seeing as how Paramount registered the title months ago it was agreed that Disney would hold off promoting ROGUE ONE until later in the year.
Thankfully that deal doesn’t stop the Star Wars rumour mill from moving forward; Deadline is telling us that Ben Mendelsohn is in discussions to take on a major role in ROGUE ONE which could have him starring alongside the film’s sole confirmed cast member Felicity Jones.
Ben Mendelsohn is a heck of an actor but has never really had the opportunity to lead a film of this size before; this could be a great chance for him to show a larger audience what he can do and plus…how can you say no to the chance at appearing in a Star Wars film? Currently Mendelsohn is blowing people away with his performance in Netflix’s great new series Bloodlines.
The Star Wars spin-off, which was scripted by Chris Weitz and will be directed by Gareth Edwards, begins shooting in London this summer for a December 16, 2016 release.
