Rugrats revival to crawl onto Paramount+ this May

After a fresh diaper change and visual upgrade, the Rugrats are set to crawl their way onto Paramount+. The revival has set a Thursday, May 27 premiere date for the long-gestating Nicktoons CG-animated adventure, so get your Reptar novelty t-shirt ready for the big day.

Toddling back to the revival are original voice actors E.G. Daily (Tommy), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie), Cheryl Chase (Angelica), Cree Summer (Susie), and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil). Additionally, Veep alums Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, and Timothy Simons will voice Chuckie's father, Chas, and Angelica's parents Charlotte and Drew, respectively. Newcomers to the revival include Ashley Rae Spillers (The Love Inside, Two Step) as Tommy’s mother Didi; Tommy Dewey (Casual) as Tommy’s father Stu; Natalie Morales (Dead to Me, Battle of the Sexes) as Phil and Lil’s mother Betty; Nicole Byer (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates) as Susie’s mother Lucy; Omar Miller (The Unicorn) as Susie’s father Randy; and Michael McKean (Better Call Saul) as Grandpa Lou Pickles.

“This incredibly talented group of actors provides a fresh and very funny take on these iconic roles, combining humor with heart to bring the characters to life in a whole new way,” Liz Paulson, Senior VP of Talent and Casting at Nickelodeon, said in a previous statement. Added Ramsey Naito, President of Nickelodeon Animation, “The all-new Rugrats is packed with comedy, music, and adventures that only babies can embark upon, and the role of the grown-ups is an essential piece of the series.”

Created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain, Rugrats ran on Nickelodeon from 1991-2004 and revolved around a group of talking babies that were nothing short of fearless when it came to engaging in a grand adventure. Okay, so maybe Chuckie was a bit of a coward, but we loved him anyway. It's been a long time since the Rugrats have been on the animated scene, and I'll be interested to see how fans react to the show's CG animation and shuffled voice cast.
