As I was reading the novel SHUTTER ISLAND last month, I immediately thought of Mark Ruffalo as the actor who would join Leonardo DiCaprio in the upcoming Martin Scorsese adaptation. The description by Dennis Lehane just made me think of Ruffalo’s character in ZODIAC and now Ruffalo has officially been cast in the film. Ruffalo will play Chuck Aule, the partner of DiCaprio’s Teddy Daniels as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of a mental patient at a hospital located on an island in the Boston harbor. Of course there’s waaay more to the story than that but to say more would be hinting at the mystery of the story. Paramount set up SHUTTER as a pre-strike project and already has a script from Laeta Kalogridis. Ruffalo has a number of projects on the way including BLINDNESS with Julianne Moore and THE BROTHERS BLOOM with Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz. Filming on SHUTTER is expected to begin in March.
