Just when you thought the cast of ZOMBIELAND 2 couldn't get any better – what with Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin all set to return for Sony Pictures' post-apocalyptic zombie comedy sequel – Deadline has exclusively announced that Marvel Netflix alumna Rosario Dawson has signed on to double-tap the undead in Ruben Fleischer's hotly-anticipated follow-up feature.
Set to be penned by original ZOMBIELAND writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the sequel centers on the comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland. The zombie slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. Most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family. (via Deadline)
Upon signing up for the Twinkie-lovin' sequel, Dawson will star alongside the film's main players, as well as newcomers Zoey Deutch (BEFORE I FALL, FLOWER) and Avan Jogia (SHAFT, NOW APOCALYPSE), as Madison and Berkeley, respectively. Also set to appear, though I'm not sure how after the events of the first film, is Bill Murray. Oh, and if one former Ghostbuster isn't enough for you, you can hang your hat on the fact that Dan Aykroyd is expected to play himself in the film as well.
You guys. Seriously. What if Aykroyd has to take out an undead Bill Murray in ZOMBIELAND 2? Are we talkin' 2019's Best Picture winner at the 2019 Oscars? The magic Magic 8 Ball that I keep on my desk says "All Signs Point to Yes," and between you and me, this nostalgic knick-knack has never steered me wrong.
In addition to getting the good word related to Rosario Dawson's casting, Sony's official Twitter account recently decided to have a little fun with Fleischer's original film, by entering it into a recent social media craze dubbed #10YearChallenge:
The side-by-side images feature Harrelson's Tallahassee, Stone's Wichita, Eisenberg's Columbus, and Breslin's LIttle Rock, both as they were in the 2009 original as well as this year's sequel. Obviously, the Most Dramatic Change in Apperance Award goes to Abigail Breslin, who was just 13-years-young when ZOMBIELAND was shot, and now looks tough as nails and ready to throw down, once more.
ZOMBIELAND 2 is set to shamble into theaters on October 11, 2019.
