Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple has been featured in every Marvel Netflix show (except THE PUNISHER), healing the wounds of our heroes and providing sound advice. In essence, she is probably the true, unsung hero of the shows. That being said, Temple has never had that much else to do in the shows, and it seems like Dawson herself is starting to think its time to hang up her scrubs.
Dawson was on hand at the MCM Comic Con in London (via SlashFilm) to talk about her role in the second season of LUKE CAGE, and in the process said she isn’t sure if she will return for more outings after CAGE.
I don’t know if I’ll be back after this, to be honest, but it’s been an amazing few years. I’ve been on a lot of different shows. I mean, I don’t know if maybe they do a third season of Luke Cage potentially, or maybe if they figure out some kind of way for me to be on The Punisher—just so I can feel like I’ve done every show.
She continued, saying that given her daughter is in high school she doesn’t “want to not be 3000 miles away for work.”
Dawson made her first appearance as Temple in the first season of DAREDEVIL, going on to appear in the others shows, like JESSICA JONES, IRON FIST, LUKE CAGE and THE DEFENDERS. She sort of acts as the connective tissue of this TV world when other heroes can’t show up in each other’s shows. Beyond that, she doesn’t seem to have a ton to do, and many have viewed her as a talent Netflix and Marvel are wasting.
I happen to agree with those who think she’s wasted. Dawson is incredibly talented, and all she seems to do on the shows is pop up, help out in some way, and then pop out. Temple’s absence probably won’t affect anything on the show, even though we would all be bummed to see her go.
Catch Dawson next in the second season of LUKE CAGE on June 22.
