That Claire Temple really gets around. After making appearances in each of Marvel's shows on Netflix, Rosario Dawson is looking to move to the big-screen side of Marvel with a role in Josh Boone's NEW MUTANTS. Production on the X-MEN spin-off is expected to kick off in early July, so I'd imagine that we'll be hearing plenty of casting news over the next month. After Anya Taylor-Joy (THE WITCH) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) officially signed on, the next member of the NEW MUTANTS cast will likely be Rosario Dawson.
THR reports that Rosario Dawson is currently in negotiations to join the cast of NEW MUTANTS, and, should the deal close, will be playing Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor with the mutant ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself. Dr. Reyes will be taking on a Professor X type role as a mentor to the young team of mutants. As a big fan of Rosario Dawson, I say hell yes to this news.
NEW MUTANTS may represent a departure from the usual X-MEN formula, as Josh Boone revealed earlier today that his intention is to make the film feel like a full-fledged horror movie as the young mutants deal with discovering their powers while they're at their most dangerous.
We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.
Rosario Dawson will reprise her role of Claire Temple once more for The Defenders, the upcoming mini-series which will find Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) finally coming together to save New York City. All eight-episodes of The Defenders will debut on Netflix on August 18, 2017. Meanwhile, NEW MUTANTS is set to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.
