Although Amazon Prime Video's Lord of the Rings series is obviously the bigger fish, the streaming-service does have another fantasy series in development, an adaptation of Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time" series.
It was announced today that Rosamund Pike (GONE GIRL) will be leading The Wheel of Time as Moiraine. If, like me, you're not overly familiar with the series, it takes place in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it. The story follows Moiraine (Pike), "a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity." Uta Briesewitz (Westworld) is set to helm the first two episodes, and with the news of Pike's casting, I'd imagine that we'll be hearing much more before too long.
Rosamund Pike will next be seen alongside Joel Kinnaman (Altered Carbon) in THE INFORMER on August 16, 2019, as well as playing famed physicist and chemist Marie Curie in RADIOACTIVE, which is slated to be released by Amazon Studios next year.
