Rooney Mara was set to star alongside her PAN co-star Hugh Jackman in COLLATERAL BEAUTY, but he had to leave the film due to his WOLVERINE 3 commitments, and was replaced by Will Smith. Now Deadline is reporting that Mara has also exited the project. There's no details on why the actress dropped out of the planned film, but she may want a break after filming Jim Sheridans' THE SECRET OF SCRIPTURE, Benedict Andrews' BLACKBIRD and Garth Davis' LION back-to-back-to-back, and will also be doing awards campaigning soon for Todd Haynes' CAROL.
Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL) is set to direct from a script by SAN ANDREAS and 21 scribe Allan Loeb, and filming is expected to begin next month. The drama will follow "a New York advertising executive who experiences a deep personal tragedy. His colleagues devise an unconventional means of breaking him out of his depression, which works, but not in a way that anyone imagined." Deadline has also learned that New Line has picked up the worldwide rights to the upcoming film. Who would you like to see star opposite Will Smith in COLLATERAL BEAUTY?
Rooney Mara's CAROL will open in limited release in the U.S. on November 20, 2015, while Smith can be seen next in CONCUSSION, which is due in theaters on December 25, 2015.
