Hellboy: Ron Perlman still wants to make a third film for the fans

Fans of Guillermo del Toro’s first two Hellboy films still hold up that the director can finish his trilogy, especially after the attempted 2019 misfire reboot that starred David Harbour. That film’s poor reception both critically and financially likely means we won’t see a Hellboy movie from anyone anytime soon but Ron Perlman, who starred in the first two films from del Toro, thinks that a third film from the prolific director should be made for the fans.

During a chat with The Independent, Ron Perlman admitted that he’s not getting any young at 71-years of age but he still wants to give the fans the “epic conclusion” that they deserve. Perlman said, “Am I eager to do Hellboy 3? No, I’m 71 f**king years old. [But] we owe this to the fans, and we should give it to them because it would be an epic conclusion. So Guillermo, if you’re reading, I’m not done pounding you to get this f**king thing done.”

The one condition seems to be Guillermo del Toro’s involvement. If he’s not on board, Perlman isn’t interested in returning. Perlman was given the opportunity to revisit the character in the ill-fated 2019 film but he turned it down because del Toro wasn’t at the helm. Perlman said in 2020 that “the reboot was something I had the opportunity to participate in and decided that the only version of Hellboy I’m interested in is the one I do with Guillermo.”

Ron Perlman and Hellboy go hand and hand because he personified the character in two films that were well received by fans. 2004’s Hellboy and 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army, both directed by Guillermo del Toro, didn’t set the box office on fire but over the years since their release, both films have become pretty well-regarded by the fanbase. I’m sure they would love to see Perlman come back for a third film with del Toro at the helm.

Do YOU think they should make a third Hellboy film with Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro?
