Ron Burgundy is starting a podcast to keep your earbuds classy

He became a legend on the local news in San Diego (translates to A Whale’s Vagina), and then after a brief stint at a job at SeaWorld harassing dolphins became the hottest name in news around the country on GNN. Now Ron Burgundy (played by Will Ferrell, or so the myth goes), the man with a handsome collection of leather-bound books and an even handsomer mustache is tackling journalism on the most modern and unsaturated platform there is: podcasts. That’s right, the man with a voice that could make a wolverine purr will be getting his own podcast, which is a pretty big deal.

The podcast, classily titled “The Ron Burgundy Podcast,” is a co-production between iHeartRadio and Funny or Die and has been greenlit for two seasons of 12 episodes apiece. Burgundy put out a “press release” citing his dire need for money as a reason for doing the podcast.

“Listen, I don’t know what a podcast is, but I currently have a lot of time on my hands and a lot to talk about. I am also broke. Therefore, I am very excited to do this podcast. It is literally saving my life.”

Conal Byrne, iHeartPodcast Network president, also put out a press release, saying, "Ron quite literally forced us into making this podcast with him, first calling us more than one hundred times in a single day and then proceeding to actually show up at our doorstep and physically force himself into our studios.”

Hmm, I guess this would explain the rest of Burgundy’s statement:

“By the way. If iHeartRadio says that I harassed them into making a podcast, it is a lie!! A boldface lie!! Did I call them one hundred times in one day? Yes! But that’s called persistence! I have filed suit against iHeartRadio for these salacious claims. I will be representing myself legally, since I currently do not have enough money to hire an attorney.”

Burgundy also took to Twitter under the new, “Certified Blue” handle @BurgundyPodcast to troll CNN’s Don Lemon, asking him to help him promote his podcast after he had his White House press credentials pulled for…reasons.

There's no word on an exact premiere date, but word is the podcast will begin airing in early 2019. Or it will start whenever Burgundy damn well pleases. In the meantime, you can catch Ferrell in HOLMES & WATSON this Christmas.
