New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Maberry is set to co-edit an anthology novel for publisher Griffin that will be set in the 48 hours surrounding the events of George A. Romero's immortal horror classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. The working title for the book is HORROR OF THE LIVING DEAD, and Maberry's co-editorĀ is none other than the zombie-creating master of horror himself, George A. Romero.
Romero will also be contributing a story to the book, as will his NIGHT co-writer John A. Russo.
The book is currently expected to consist of seventeen stories, and in addition to Romero, Russo, and Maberry the announced contributors are Brad Thor, Brian Keene, Chuck Wendig, Craig Engler, David Wellington, Isaac Marion, Jay Bonansinga, Joe Lansdale, Joe McKinney, Keith R.A. DeCandido, Mike Carey, Mira Grant, Neal Shusterman & Brandon Shusterman, and Sandra Brown & Ryan Brown.
This sounds like a very exciting project to me. Romero's DEAD films are among my top favorites, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is the movie I've watched more than any other, so I'm very much looking forward to reading these stories that take place around the same time. Especially the ones written by Romero and Russo.
Griffin has not yet scheduled a release date for the novel, but Maberry says it will most likely be out in early 2017.
