Roland Emmerich's newest film INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE has just hit theaters (and gotten a surprisingly decent review from our very own Arrow), but he's not finished with saving the Earth. He's already launching into his next sci-fi epic, a film based on a script he co-wrote with Harald Kloser (2012) and Spencer Cohen (EXTINCTION).
Titled MOONFALL, the film was picked up for seven figures by Universal, who have fast tracked the project.
Described as a cross between 2012 and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, MOONFALL follows:
an unlikely band of misfits who must unite to save humanity when the moon falls out of orbit and hurtles towards earth.
Emmerich does love widespread destruction, and this concept sounds right up his gleefully over-the-top alley. More details as this project develops!
