Though it would seem CGI completely takes over the moviemaking process in this modern era of ours, the folks behind the recent STAR WARS films have made it their mission to make practical effects work a top priority. We saw this quite evident in THE FORCE AWAKENS, and what we’ve seen of ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY is that it has really taken the torch and run with it. With only about a week and half before the movie’s release (!) we're getting more and more pieces of footage, one of them being a new featurette that examines the life-like robotic creatures and detailed costumes that were made for the film. You could say it’s a real…creature feature. I will wait for your sides to stop bursting, and when you’ve composed yourself check it out below!
These creatures could’ve all been fake-looking digital renderings, or even motion capture, but there’s something so magical about it being hand-crafted. What these new WARS movies are benefitting from is having that realistic-yet-fantastical look to them the original flicks had, and something that seemed lost with the prequels. But whether it’s with robotics or make-up these movies are keeping old school effects alive, and for that they deserve all our money. C’mon, fork it over and buy up those 3D IMAX seats. I know grandma is complaining but she’ll wear those glasses and like it!
ROGUE ONE finally arrives December 16 with Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Riz Ahmed, Alan Tudyk and all their creature pals.
