Rogers: The Musical from Hawkeye is set to perform at Disneyland resort this year

The meta joke from Disney+’s Hawkeye will now dazzle audiences in real life as a one-act performance is due out in summer.

Rogers the musical

It’s been called “a super powered sensation.” Critics have said that it’s “an all-American musical for an all-American hero.” And Dancer magazine exclaimed, “Every Avenger brought to life!” It’s the popular, audience and critically-acclaimed stage show Rogers: The Musical. And it’s not real…until now. The Disney+ series, Hawkeye, about the lesser profiled member from The Avengers movies, featured a tongue-in-cheek joke about a broadway musical in the superhero universe that depicts the events in New York in 2012 when the Avengers first assembled.

Deadline now has the details on Rogers: The Musical making its way on stage for real as it is set to be performed this summer at the Hyperion Stage inside California Adventure Park at Disneyland resort. Rogers: The Musical was first shown in the premiere episode of Hawkeye as joke where Clint Barton, played by Jeremy Renner, would take his kids to see the show in New York. Barton would practically sink in his seat as the musical takes liberties with the events of the first Avengers movie and even downplayed his involvement.

In episode 6 of the series, as per usual for Marvel, there would be a mid-credits easter egg that treated viewers to an extended look at the musical performance. The sequence features a song written by the award-winning songwriting team who had worked on such musicals as HairspraySmash, and Mary Poppins Returns, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and Shaiman had also produced the actual song recording.

As for casting announcements and details of the plot of the musical, it’s all currently being kept under wraps. However, it can be assumed that Shaiman and Wittman are involved. In a tweet from the official Avengers account, they have released a trailer for the musical, even teasing an appearance by Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers’ long-pursued love interest.

The star of Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner, was notoriously involved in a devastating snow plow accident at the start of the year and underwent extensive hospital care. Renner has since been updating the public periodically on his condition and his road to recovery. His peers and fans have shown an outpouring of support online, including Steve Rogers himself, Chris Evans, who praised his toughness and cheekily asked, “Has anyone checked on the snow plow?” In addition to Hawkeye, Renner is set to have a new Disney+ show titled Rennervations, due to hit in the near future.
