Rogen & Guadagnino partner for Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood

Something rather scintillating is on the way thanks to Searchlight, who Deadline reports have hired Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg as writers of a narrative film based on the Matt Tyrnauer-directed documentary Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood, with Luca Guadagnino set to direct.

Per Deadline, the film centers around Scotty Bowers, a World War II Marine combat veteran who fought at the Battle of Iwo Jima and became a legendary bisexual male hustler and date-arranger for gay Hollywood movie stars from the 1940s until the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s. The documentary takes its cues from Bowers' book Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars, a steamy tell-all that earned its title because Bowers arranged a series of liaisons from a gas station he managed under the cloak of Hollywood studios. Rather than be looked upon as a deviant for his actions, Bowers' business flourished thanks in part to it establishing a safe environment where gay members of the Hollywood community could meet in secret and away from acts of violence.

Tyrnauer and his Altimeter Films partner Corey Reeser will produce alongside Point Grey Pictures. with Searchlight's Richard Ruiz set to oversee the project.

Recently the multi-faceted filmmaker completed work on his HBO Max film AN AMERICAN PICKLE, in which he plays Herschel Greenbaum, an immigrant worker at a pickle factory who is accidentally preserved for 100 years and wakes up in modern-day Brooklyn. Rogen also plays Ben Greenbaum for the Brandon Trost-directed comedy, which is set to have its premiere on August 6.
