Ryan Coogler’s (FRUITVALE STATION) CREED is a spinoff of the ROCKY series that centers on Apollo Creed's grandson. We haven’t heard much about over the last year until today where some new reports have things heating up again. It’s being said that World Boxing Association champion Andre Ward and British champion boxer Tony Bellew are both in negations to join the cast of the film. If that’s a go, they will join the already cast Michael B. Jordan who is set to play the role of Creed’s grandson. We don’t know who Ward will play in the film but Bellew would play Creed’s opponent, “Pretty Ricky Porter.”
I love the ROCKY movies, and consider ROCKY BALBOA to be a great finale for the franchise. CREED certainly has the talent moving the project along to have me interested though. Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa is apparently going to mentor the young boxer in the movie, who could say no to that?
After Coogler signed with WME back in 2012 he quickly got to work on CREED calling it his dream project. He then got the approval of Stallone and then MGM gave the go-ahead; Creed should hit production in Las Vegas and Philadelphia this January.
Ding ding…
