Sylvester Stallone is among the biggest icons of our time. From Rocky to Rambo, very few actors have had as profound an impact on the pop culture as he had. Well into his seventies, he’s still an in-demand lead in action films, and in terms of longevity, very few people can go toe-to-toe with the Italian Stallion. Here at JoBlo, we’re pretty massive Sly fans, which brings us to what we hope will be a long-lasting, all-new show here on JoBlo Videos, Sylvester Stallone Revisited (from the makers of James Bond Revisited), where we take a look at most of the major films in his filmography, exploring what makes them great (or not), whether they stand the test of time, and what they did for Sly’s legacy. We already covered 1982, arguably the most important year of Sly’s career in our first two episodes of Rocky III and First Blood, but now we’re taking it back to where it all started, Rocky & Rocky II!
Every time anyone goes to Philadelphia, USA they have to run up the “Rocky Steps” at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and take a picture with the Rocky Statue (unveiled in Rocky III) which is now located at the bottom of the staircase; in front of the Museum.
There’s always people there, of all ages, running up them steps and bouncing at the top, hands up, victorious. I don’t think anybody behind the making of Rocky knew that they would create something that would be so iconic and dare I say; everlasting. It’s a film with a core message that has affected many deeply. The movie has been passed on from generation to generation; until it finally gave birth to a spinoff (the Creed franchise) that will surely continue the tradition of conveying the universal missive of “wherever you’re from, if you give it all you have and never give up, you can beat the odds” for generations to come.
Being that so much has already been said over the years about the 1976 Rocky and 1979’s Rocky II; we decided to take on both films at the same time in this one episode of STALLONE REVISITED. And having watched both pictures again back to back, they do go hand in hand that’s for damn sure. So check out the video above for ROUND 1! Ding-ding!
