He tried returning to his London crime thriller roots with REVOLVER and though it wasn’t exactly well received, most of us gave him a pass for at least trying to repress (not suppress, mind you, but repress) the memory of SWEPT AWAY with his patented brand of thriller.
Which means, of course, that his upcoming return to the seedy underbelly of the British criminal underworld, ROCK’N’ROLLA, will either allow us to remember the Guy Ritchie of old or confirm for us that he really will never be the same.
In any case, Ritchie himself seems pretty damn pleased with the flick as one of the film’s stars, Thandie Newton, recently told MTV Movies that he’s keen to complete a trilogy of ROCK’N’ROLLA films. “RocknRolla’ is one of three films and Guy’s keen to get going on that straight away. [The second and third films in the series] are going to be excellent. I can’t wait,” says the spicy chocolate Brit.
The film is of course an interconnected web of stories in wihich “London’s criminal underworld takes notice of a Russian mobster’s shady land deal, a scam that puts millions of dollars up for grabs.” Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, Ludacris, Jeremy Piven and Gemma Arterton co-star. It’s set for release October 31st. Because clearly Halloween is the absolute best time to release a crime thriller.
