When you think about the legacy of Elton John the genius of his music is paired right alongside the wildness of his costumes. Extraordinary clothing choices helped him stand out in the music business and defined his personality, and the new featurette for the biopic ROCKETMAN takes you behind the scenes and into the costume department where star Taron Egerton, costume designer Julian Day and John himself as they talked about bringing out the magic of the musical maestro through the wardrobe.

If you’ve seen the trailers for the movie you’ve already seen countless stupendous costumes Egerton wears as John and Day talks about how the costumes aren’t taken directly from John’s wardrobe but were instead created for the movie and inspired by the star’s looks over the years.
“What we talked about was using the basis of Elton’s clothes to create our own look for him,” says Day. He continued, saying there are over 50 pairs of glasses and just as many pairs of shoes. He doesn't say it explicitly, but if you can spot them all you get a free hat.

I'm not one for a fancy wardrobe, but I'm very impressed with how the costume team concocted such elaborate costumes all for the movie and stepping into John's mind to get it done. The movie tells his story through a fantasy/musical lens and it's great they're driving that style home through the costumes. It's a fact that the more feathers there are involved, the better the musical will be.
