Get ready, gamers… The ROBOT CHICKEN squad is getting a shot at making a quality video game movie for you, and it would seem to be right in their wheel house given the source material.
Matthew Senreich, Tom Sheppard and Zeb Wells – writers for ROBOT CHICKEN – have been tasked with penning the screenplay for a RABBIDS movie that would work as a live-action/stop-motion animation hybrid for Ubisoft Motion Pictures and Sony Pictures.
Based on the crazy characters popularized by the RAYMAN video game series, the Rabbids are raving rabbits who love creating havoc and madness. Much like the Minions were from the DESPICABLE ME series, Ubisoft eventually spun them off into their own thing, given how much more of them the fanbase desired. They became the selling point of the entire franchise, and now the idea is that they’re uniquely wild enough to have a film franchise launched around them, too.
I’ve been a fan of the Rabbids for awhile, and think there is a real shot of them succeeding at the box office at a time when family entertainment is really thriving. They are made for a big crossover audience, and that is the kind of thing Sony really needs at this point when franchises are sorely lacking in their inventory.
