The North American distribution rights to the fan-funded, four-part docuseries RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop has been acquired by Cinedigm, with the company planning to release RoboDoc through their streaming service Screambox and then on digital platforms sometime in early 2023.
Coming to us from Dead Mouse Productions Ltd and Cult Screenings UK Ltd, RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop is a fully independent retrospective into the making of RoboCop and its cultural impact over the last 30 years. Supported by dozens of the original cast and crew, RoboDoc is made by fans of the movie for fans of the movie.
Directed by Chris Griffiths and Eastwood Allen, RoboDoc also goes beyond the first RoboCop to take a look at the making of RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3. Deadline reports that the docuseries features “new interviews with cast and crew, including stars Dr Peter Weller, Diane Robin, Ronny Cox, Nancy Allen, Ray Wise, and director Paul Verhoeven.”
Brad Miska, Managing Director of Bloody Disgusting, which powers Screambox, provided the following statement: “RoboCop is not only a technological icon but a film that pushed boundaries with its practical effects and excessively violent gore. Much of what we see on screen today can be credited to the innovative minds of the 70’s and 80’s. We’re thrilled fans will finally be able to see the story on Screambox next year.“
Eastwood Allen had this to say about the docuseries: “We’ve crafted something together to incorporate visuals and sound in an effort to immerse viewers into the world of 80s filmmaking and offer something completely unique to the ‘making of’ format.“
Chris Griffiths added: “As a fan of RoboCop for the past 30 years, this project has been a labor of love for me and I can’t wait to share this unique project with the fans, especially those who have stood by us all these years.“
Gary Smart produced RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop with Michael Perez and Hank Starrs. John Cashin, Gary Collins, Ben KB Ng, Fuad Omar, Aleksandar Smiljanic, Sean Tiedeman, and Laurence Gornall serve as executive producers.
